New Supervision opportunities: Group and Individual

An artist’s view of coaching supervision.

There’s nothing like international travel to sharpen one’s awareness of the world and to call us to fresh observations. Supervision is all about awareness and my just completed trips to France and Spain sure got my attention.

A tour of classic paintings at the Prado Museum in Madrid - with a fine guide – reminded me to look closely at the perspective offered in each painting. The guide asked, “where is the artist looking from?” What an excellent reminder to ask in supervision, “where am I, the supervisor, looking from?” “Where is the coaching looking from?” “Where is the GROUP looking from?” “Where is the client in this scene?”

Portrait of Dora Maar by Pablo Picasso

Likewise in reviewing Picasso, Dali, Miro, and others, I realized again that the artist has an intention, and that the viewer is REQUIRED to look deeply. Is specially in abstract, cubist, surreal images we must ask, “What in the world is going on here?” A quick glance is simply not enough.

A different perspective comes from Picasso himself : “La peinture est plus forte que moi. Elle me fait faire ce qu’elle veut. » « The painting is stronger than I am. She makes me do what she wants.” (27 March 1963) If the “painting” is the client and client context, what does it demand of us? Let’s talk.

So……I’m recharged and looking forward to the next group with whom I get to explore!

Please get in touch as I start building a new group with the intention to start in September or October. Space is limited to six “visitors” to the galleries of coaching cases.

Current CSA Students!

Likewise, as students in current CSA diploma courses, learning to see like an artist will help you define yourself as a supervisor. Afterall, “who you are is how you supervise.”

If you are interested in joining one of my new groups or would like to explore individual coaching supervision with me... let’s talk! - sam@sammagill.com
