Intercultural Communication Coach. Co-founder of The Dramathon. Beginner saxophone player.
Ian King is a creative and adaptable intercultural consultant, 'crossover coach' and trainer. An incurable learner, linguist and bridge builder, his agile approach enables his clients to expand their comfort zone and embrace the challenges of working in a changing and uncertain world.
Originally from the UK, Ian's intercultural experience started well before moving abroad, when he moved from London to Leeds before obtaining a degree in French and Philosophy from the University of Edinburgh. As part of his studies, he spent a year in French Guiana.
After a 2-year spell lecturing at Nice University, Ian moved to Paris where he learned the double trade of corporate trainer and manager at a language and communications training company, rising to become a member of the executive committee. He developed several ground-breaking training and coaching programmes, notably for senior management at a large French bank and a well-known automobile maker.
In 2012, Ian set up his own company, Apples and Pears, and strengthened his coaching credentials by training as an Executive Coach at HEC. Today he delivers training, coaching, teambuilding and conferences in French and English in several European countries.
Thanks to his double culture, Ian helps clients build bridges between what they know and what they don't. He has a very empirical, experiential approach to coaching, strongly based on communication skills. Ian is a certified practitioner with various tools to accelerate progress (Insights Discovery, Cultural Transformation Tools and The International Profiler). In order to develop resilience, Ian practices and recommends a regular practice of mindfulness.
Based in Paris, Ian is a keen runner and occasional whisky-drinker. In 2017 he combined these twin passions to co-create The Dramathon, a whisky trail marathon in Speyside, Scotland. The 2022 edition attracted over 1500 runners.
Ian is available to help your company embrace the complex challenges of working in an increasingly multicultural world.
