I aim to provide a supervision relationship which gives a supervisee a safe place and a supportive, challenging relationship where they can reflect on client work
I have been supervising fellow executive coaching clients since qualifying with the Coaching Supervision Academy (CSA) in 2009. I have specialised for over twenty years in working with senior executives who have multiple challenges to face, across a spectrum of blue-chip organisations in the UK and abroad. My supervisees appreciate my pragmatic approach which is based on an understanding of what it is like to work as a coach in competitive and stressful environments.
My practice is underpinned by my alignment with CSA and informed by rigorous and continual self-development and my own regular professional supervision. Recently, I have pioneered and researched a ground-breaking new methodology, Optimal Energy ® Coaching, which is based on my MA research and book 'Coaching for Optimal Energy: A guide for executive coaches'. This addresses client energy levels with a focus on how this influences how they perform, feel, behave, relate to and impact others and is wholly appropriate to coach supervision.
As mentioned above, I aim to create a place of safety and of deep attention, where the supervisee/colleague does not feel judged, can open up and where we can be curious and creative together. This allows for deep thought, exploration of the complexities of the client relationship and wider issues, so the supervisee can go back to their clients with a clearer mind, understanding what is impacting their work. At times I will offer new perspectives and, when appropriate, challenge. I believe that supervision allows fellow coaches to improve their skills and understanding, gain new insights, learn new tools and techniques, unpick relationship and organisational dynamics and therefore develop and sustain their competence.
What fascinates me about supervision and coaching is how we as the supervisor/coach can give the client the place where they are truly listened to and can most effectively do their own work. My aim is to provide a relationship where we can be curious together and be ourselves, a place of warmth and sometimes a place of laughter.
Before becoming an executive coach I developed and ran a consultancy which helped large retail and transport organisations prepare for and deal with complex workplace situations directly affecting their bottom line. Clients included Virgin Trains, Woolworths and Majestic Wine.
I have featured as a speaker at a number of major conferences, including those hosted by the British Retail Consortium and The Association of Counselling in the Workplace and gave the keynote speech to the Oxford Brookes Coaching and Mentoring Research Conference in January 2023.
I provide supervision remotely and face-to-face if location allows.
